A Big Move

It is official!!

It has been in the works for almost a year. No, I am not talking swim wear.

Our family will be moving from Seattle Washington to Minneapolis Minnesota at the end of June.

Ahhhh!! I know! I can hardly believe it myself.

Yes, Minnersowta, as our family likes to call it. Not Fargo, but close enough. My husband and I are already regularly practicing our new language. Oh yeah surrre ya betch ya. Wherrre ready no doubt. Heavy on the r's and your pretty darn close. And just in case you are wondering what kind of activities they like to do in good old Minnersowta here is an example to temp you to visit us.

Ice Fishing.

But just in case this isn't your thing, there is always ice bathing.

That's right, you see it here. Ice bathing. That is what I am talkin about. Your beer stays cold and helps you forget your freezing on an ice burg. And if you are thinking it , it's okay, we all ready know it, we are a little crazy. : ) The comfort in it all is, so are those we going to move over to be with. Just a shout out to the Abins and the Evans.

We thought we where back in Seattle to stay. But it seems God was sweet enough to bring us back for just a few years this round in order to let us be apart of some really important times in our extended families lives, and we are so thankful He did. But now He is moving us on. My sweet hubby has received an Associate Pastoral position at Christ Church Twin Cities with Pastor Jeff Evans (a great friend) and we are quite ecstatic about the whole thing.

This crew of people from Christ Church have gone out of their way to find us housing and get us all we need for the move. We are absolutely positive that we are undeserving of this full love they are enthusiastically extending to us. But we are loving it!

So keep us in your prayers. You know how eventful moves can be, let alone moving to a different state.

Rebel Angle- By; Saticoy- Music We Need More Of

Totally unrealated to anything about me or my work, and important to be seen.

This is the band Saticoy, from Moscow Idaho. Yes, you read that right.

Katie Sanders, from the band Saticoy, is the vocal wonder for this sound coming out of the faithful Christian culture rising up our of the Christ Church community, in Moscow Idaho.

Here you can see them performing their song Rebel Angel, a song about Adam and Eve.

My husband and I where just talking about the embarrassing array of Christian music that can be found out there these days. It is not to say there isn't good stuff, but, it is hard to find. You don't have to know much about the Bible to get on Christain radio label. You really don't even need to have that great of a voice. It is getting to the point that any goof with a good heart, a guitar he pickup at the local goodwill and vocal cords can get his name on a CD cover and be sold next to the Amish romance novels in their local Christian book store.

Well this is not that kind of .....un recyclable goods. This is a creative sound. People who love God, by actually knowing His word, and writing about it in glorified, and creative speech. You gotta love it!

I am thankful for this group.

Well speaking of great swim wear. Okay, not so humble, but if I don't like my own work, I better get out of the business now right. And come on, tell me this isn't so cute.

I have been spending quite a bit of time in downtown Seattle of late. I am working with a wonderful team of ladies, who are together Atelier Verdigris, developing my swimsuit line.

And here is one of our latest prototypes. There are still a few changes we have decided to make but they will be even more lovely when we are done.

Stylish Modest Swim Wear....psh, I Don't Think So!! PART 1

Okay, I am about to throw rocks in a moving vehicle, which I know is not advisable. I might get one back in the eye, it's true, but please read all the way through before you toss it back.

It is not my intention to discourage those who are trying to do good things in the name of God. But instead, to challenge us to think more like God- then do things in His name.

When I started making suits, they where for myself and my girls. But when I saw the general need for these suits in the market place, I began making them for friends, and eventually for the public. My aim in this venture is two fold, to see the female form honored, and most importantly, to honor God in return for the beauty He has given to us. This is my offering of thanks.

When I started Arrayed et Adorned, and got the Bathing Beauty Swim line going, I had no intention of being a single solder in the quest. I started this to give women another option of what they could put on, when it came time to jump in the water. I consider it to be one of the better options at the present. However, I don't expect it to remain this way.

Others will grow similar ideas and God will bless many of them in this work I am sure. The goal here is to see the ladies of the world arrayed with honoring beauty while at the beach or pool. Cause lets face it, I am quit sure that a bikini, which simply put is a spandex panty and bra set, does not bring joy to the heart of God. And please don't bother trying to convince me that He could care less. I am quite sure that He does. After all, He speaks on this topic often enough in scripture to indicate it's importance.

So, with that said, I must fuss. I am not just trying to knock around the competition (very much), I just can't abide all this foolishness.

So here it is- If you advertise modest swim suits, then they must be modest. I should not feel embarrassed to look at your website because all your models have taken special attention to make the most of those deep, V-necks tops, as they stick out their chests and present the girls to the public.

But on the other hand, if you are making modest swim wear that you also broadcast as stylish, well, I hope this isn't too painful for those of you who like them, but seriously, spandex Capri pants under a potato sack dress with three quarter length spandex sleeves. Stylish? Really? Are you sure about that? I don't think stylish is the word that comes to the minds of most of us when we view these creations. Muslims, we are not. We do not distain the beautiful female form God has has given us.

Listen, I deeply agree that modesty, in our bathing suit world, is a real issue right now. I also think it is better to get out there and start swinging at the ball, possibly missing a few balls in the process, hoping to knock one out of the park. That is completely different than doing nothing. But I do think we Christians should be knocking some out of the park. What I am saying is that trying is important, yes, but it matters what your trying for. If you have a solid biblical understanding of what God loves and what He hates, you will better be able to produce something He will love. Our problems is that our views on modesty are a little bit off, hazy, and often self righteous.

This really is not a my opinion vs your opinion issue. This is a battle for culture. Let me say that again. We are battling for the reign of culture. We are fighting against a side, the wrong side. We are fighting for God. Therefore, we better represent. We need to think ahead for our children, and their children. This isn't just about us, it never really is. This is about God's will being done on earth as it is in heaven. That may seem like I am shooting for the starts, but everything we do should fall in this category. Again, if we don't know what we are aiming for, we won't know how to get there. We will waist our time fighting for many things we think are good, just to find out later, we where wrong.

I would like to see Christians put way more thought and effort into this whole modesty controversy. What does God mean when he says to adorn one selves? How much must be covered, and when is it just too much? (I know, shocking that I would think anything is too much.)

Okay, so I am still the worst blogger in all of America, but, but......nope, I have no excuse.

But, I am in the throws of Bathing Beauty Swim Wear craziness. With the 2011 line coming soon, fabric hunting, and working with Atelier Verdigris, the new Apparel production team I am working on my swim suite line with, I have been up to my eyeballs in....well, just about everything. Diapers, dishes, sewing, cooking, and all other things that mom's, wives and business ladies do.
Sleep you say, yeah, I 'll sleep when I'm dead...I think.

So we are all done with 2010. It was a great year, and now we need to move on.

The Worst Blogger In The World

Well that would be me. I hear that confessing it is half of solving the problems, so maybe this will help me in my goal to have a more regular presence here.

Though I do have a good excuse.

I have spent the last five days gallivanting around Moscow Idaho. One of my favorite places in the world. My husband had his grand day of honor with a hand shake, a prayer, and a plaque, he is now one of the few actual graduated Greyfriars around. We had a wonderful time as we visited many old and beloved friends and just had an all around splendid few days.

A blizzard followed us home, but after an extra long, and I may as well confess, a touch scary ride, we are now home.

More on 2010 to come. Let's see if I can get to 2011 soon here.

Just so you don't think swim wear isn't on my mind, I thought that I should mention that I am working on many behind the scenes details for my Bathing Beauty Swim line right now.

I have been working with some patten makers here on the West Coast, and man, talk about feeling like the little kid trying to pass the swim test in the deep end of the pool for the first time.

Or maybe a better analogy would be for you to picture a huge boulder rolling down a long hill, with me perched right on top of it, running. Well, I don't know that running would be a truthful verb to describe what I am doing. Maybe more like tripping. And if that isn't tricky enough, I seem to be spending more time loosing my footing, while the bolder rolls over me and drags me along, then I do running a top of it. It's amazing I haven't lost my baby weight from all this running. Or at the very least, been crushed into a thin 2 dimensional version of myself.

So, all that to say, I will be working on sewin up a store here for next couple months, while you all look forward to dressing those sweet little ladies of your in something beautiful for the water.

What a chunk! And at 10 pounds, we know why. This is so funny to me because she is so petite now.

Tallis-Donna on her second day of life.

Tallis-Donna spends most of her day's with her big brother Lucius while all her other siblings are at school. They have become quite good friends.

Mmmm, what a sweet family. I am absolutely sure I neither deserve them or love them enough, but I am so thrilled they are mine.

I do not know how my husband did this, but somehow he managed to get this picture at the moment I lifted the cord to find out that, though we knew we where having a boy, this sweet little wonder was always a perfect little girl.

This was such a wonderful surprise for our family. Both Chris and I confessed that we really wanted another girl. The children had already said that we had to have a girl so we could name her after Mor Mor (my mother).

We affectionately named our new sweetness after my mother Donna.

A VERY Pregnant Mama

Okay, so like I said, we are making it through 2010 and one of our funnest recaps is our bundle.

You might remember that a couple of years ago my Mama passed away, and just on the cusp of her death we found out we where pregnant. And if that was not enough of a thrilling surprise, it turned out that I was due on my late mother's birthday.

Well here I am in all my glowing glory, thanks to a husband who loves his wife pregnant, and believes that it must be documented.

Though I may look a little mad in this picture, I assure you I am not, I was in what my husband calls my work mode. While in the middle of a vigorous dish washing session, there was a pause for a little photo shoot. Hence the water on the belly.

And just a side note, Isn't that just always the way of it, water, food, flour, it all some how finds a comfortable home on the belly of the pregnant woman. I don't see men with this problem, no matter how big their belly is.

Auction Project for Our Kid's School

Over the last few years, as our children have attended Providence Classical Christian School, I have volunteered to make several of the class Auction projects. Our school has been a great blessing to our family, and this is the least I can do to help out.

The kindergarten class has a liking for these birdbaths. One mother made one years ago, and the concept stuck.

To the right is the one I have made for the 2008 School Auction, the 2010 birdbath is below, and this years birdbath is just about to get underway. These are hysterically manipulated projects. If you look close at the 2010 birdbath, what you will see is a pasta bowl, at top a soup bowl, a top a candle holder, a top a small, upside down, cake plate (a very cute cake plate at that), a top a large, upside down, cake plate.

I paint it all, have the kids paint little animals, it all gets fired up, glued together, and Vwala!! You have your self a birdbath that auctions off for miiiillion's of dollars.

Okay, well maybe not millions.

This view shows the inside of the birdbath bowl. These are wonderful auction projects, but would also be wonderful family projects. I plan to do one for my own family someday.

A very important must know about these babies is that they must be emptied of whatever water is in them when it freezes outside, or it will crack the bowl. Aaahhhhhh!! Now that would be a shame.

Okay, sad story, as a side note. This beautiful birdbath for 2010 was purchase by this great family from the school, actually, one of the teachers at the school. Their son's, who no doubt where saving a baby, or some other heroic act, managed to topple the beauty into quite a few pieces and the great things it, the dad, with great skill, glued it all back together. Now that is impressive!

Pottery is such a fun thing to do.

Another great idea is a serving set. A few years ago I painted a serving platter with appetizer plates. This was really fun and creative. I drew all different flowers in black outline, and each child chose a different color, with which they repeatedly put their finger print in the outlined flowers. That was a fun set, and something that you could continually add to.

If you live near Seattle or Edmonds are, there is a great store called Glazed and Amazed which keeps a healthy stock of pottery on hand.

Can't you just feel spring when you look into that aqua birdbath bowl? : )

Where Has The Time Flown

Well goodness!!

I can not believe how the time has flown by this year. I had many intentions and creative ideas about all the fun posts I was going to share. I even decided I would add some of our Comis Family adventures and moments to the site. But can you believe it, I failed!

The Christmas season has come and gone. And I am looking forward to the newness of spring. But as long as the clouds, rain, and snow keep hovering over head, we must make our own sun. I see no other choice but to do a recap for 2010. Pictures of smiling kids and crafty projects it just what is needed to keep the sun shining indoors.

I am going to take this next week to do a rewind on good old 2010.

So excuse me while I reminisce.

January 26th is Lucius' Birthday. So, just around the corner we will celebrate this little mans birthday, just as we did last year.

We made a special ice cream cake to appease the adult attendants. So yes, this 3 year old got 2 cakes. And oh was it worth it! Yes, that is caramel sauce dripping down. This cake was amazing with layers of 2 kinds of ice cream, peanut butter, fudge, white chocolate, caramel, whip cream, and almond slices. This is one amazing cake. I recommend it highly.

Tucked Away on a Hospital Stay

Well you will just have to excuse me for my silence, as I have been recuperating from a little emergency hospital stay. Seems the pain in my chest wasn’t from pregnancy or acid reflux. Come to find out I had gallstones and pancreatitis. So after 3 days of starvation I had surgery to have my gallbladder removed, followed by a night of pre-term labor and another couple days to rest under observation in the hospital. Because after all, it wouldn’t be a Comis pregnancy without a little drama, right.

So I am home, I am feeling better, baby is doing fine and I am taking plenty of rest while my sweet man takes care of me and my kiddo’s. So I am sorry to say, but I would not expect any fantastic new exciting items to come from Arrayed et Adorned at the moment. Truth is, we have our hands full with our Little Ladies Bathing Beauties and our new diet. But thanks for checking in and here’s to your health!

Adorable Ties- Are You Ready for Easter???

I hope you are all getting those Easter outfits together. I think that this is the grandest day in the Christian calendar, a day when we should all come out wearing colors that are bold and cheerful. What a day to celebrate life in the Lord, all things new and hopeful. I have always loved living in Seattle because we have a true spring here, and in Gods perfect wisdom, the time of spring greatly adds to the significance of Easter day.

Don’t forget, if you are in need of ties for your young men, be sure to go over to Arrayed et Adorned on Etsy and put in your orders while there is still time for them to be shipped to you. You can even put in a special order for a matching tie for Dad in most cases.

Speaking of special orders, this is another custom order I have to share with you. It is just too cute to keep it to myself. This order included two boys’ ties. These two boys are going to be in a wedding and while the elder boy is wearing a matching Youth Tie, the little guy will be sporting this adorable bow tie. Picture this on a 1 year old. J

I had not yet made a little mans bow tie and I am thrilled that I can now offer them for sale with confidence that you will actually get what you are looking for.

This bow tie is a real tie -bow tie and has all the features of our normal ties-scotch guarded for stain resistance, and made with integrity to last on those ruff and tumble guys.

So now I am off to finish Easter clothes for my family. I will show you when I am finished. Like I mentioned, I am all about bright and colorful for Easter and I think it is the most important day to express great cheerfulness with our clothing. We have a Good Friday service which our whole family attends in dark colors, usually black, to symbolize sorrow and mourning for the death of the Savior. So, Easter is a huge contrast with all the color I try to pull off so that we can symbolize great joy and bold triumph. And it is just plain fun for the kids to all wear new bight colored clothing.

Another Cool Custom Order

I had to show off this custom order. I just made this tie for Matthias Rice, son of Terri Rice, of Pink Peppers. Her son plays the bag pipes and plays them in a band. This wool tie will finish off his black kilt uniform.

I really had to show this to you because my husband loved it so much; he has requested me to make him his own tie just like it. Actually, the request has really turned into a bit of a repeated praise, (He loves to flatter me so.) He has told men at church about this tie and repeatedly shared with me his love for this black tie. However, he has added a funky twist to it. He would like me to make some kind of a green screen print for it, one that matches the green dots. Now, you would have to know my husband to know what a huge creative leap this is for him. He rarely has an opinion about my work until it is finished and then he raves about it. But he has never thought up and idea and requested it. I am so thrilled with his enthusiasm, and I have every intention of honor this custom order from my husband.

So, when I get myself out from under my piles of laundry, making Easter clothes for my own kiddos and finishing up other orders, I will get myself hoppin with my husband’s new screen printed black wool tie and show you all what I come up with.

We continue on the journey of the Baptismal Gown.

These are some of the beauty's, and a beast, I have come upon in my recent search.

Feast your eyes on this beast for example;

It is the negligee of Baptismal Gowns. I mean really!

But that is all, that is really the only true beast I found. From here we have some true beauties.

And my favorite is for last.

Aren't those sweet. I enjoyed my exploration of the Baptismal Gown. I will write you a little history of the gown soon. If I can get it together, I will show you a picture of the Romper I made for my nephew.

More on the Baptismal Gown

Okay, so I have not finished my fact collecting on the history of the Baptismal Gown (which by the way is my revision of the original name Christening Gown,) however, on my journey I have found some treasures and some giggles that must be shared. Let’s start with a giggle shall we.

I know you guys think I am kidding, but I am not. These are out there for sale. But to be fare, there are some really cute ones as well.

This is my favorite. It is very similar to the gown/romper I just made for my nephew, (pictures forth coming.)

This last one can be found on Etsy.com. They are expensive, but worth every penny.

An Occasion for a Gown

A Baptismal Gown that is.

This is the baptismal Gown that I made for my niece a couple of years ago. It was the first baptismal gown I ever made, and I was quite proud (and a little surprised) of its extraordinary beauty. To say the least, I was inspired.

Let me give you a little back ground. We baptize our infants in our house and most families in our church do the same. No, we are not Catholic, but we are reformed and covenantal, and this way of living means we believe our children, who are born into a Christian family, need to take on the name of the head of their church, Christ, by being baptized. But that is a conversation for another time.

So, many years ago I looked for a gown for my daughter and could not find one I liked. All I did find was white and stiff with way to much cheap lace. And I thought to myself, someone really should make better Baptismal Gowns.

Well, I have yet to see anything that strikes me as beautiful, coming out of our local stores. However I have seen a few friends gifted an old family heirloom here and there, and this got me thinking. Why are we not producing our own heirloom Baptismal Gowns? Gowns that we can use for our children and that they can use for their children.

So, here I am on another quest. Sewing and ripping, and ripping and sewing my way to victory. I am now working on my nephews Baptismal Romper. It is a twist on the Gown, so it is fitting for a little boy. It has a special-removable feature, the Gown skirt snaps on and off. So he can wear his robes of glory for his coming into the kingdom of God when he takes on his new name of Christian. But then his glory robes can be removed so he can still look like a boy during his baptism party, because afterwards we must party.

I will post a picture of my latest creation soon.

By the way, I have been thinking about selling Baptismal Gowns. They are quite difficult to make and would be expensive. So I am wondering, do you think these are a desired item for those baptizing their children? I would love to hear your opinions.

We're having a Baby! Let's give something away

For Thanksgiving the Comis Clan found out that God was introducing a new little one to our family.

We are sweetened by the fact that this baby is due on my late mother's birthday. My mother died in September and this is evidence to us of God renewing love from the grave to the womb.

So we must celebrate such a wonder and bring joy to others with presents.

The give away item is one of the fantastic Arrayed et Adorned ~Wipe Clean Bibs~. This bib is for a girl and will usually fit children up to age 3.

This give away will last until next Saturday.

Please leave a comment guessing the due date of our up-and-coming baby. I will draw a name from those who correctly guess the due date. Remember, that we found out on Thanksgiving and baby Comis is due on my mother's birthday.

If you knew my mom you will have a leg up; but truth be told, I always thought my mom's birthday was one day later than it really was. : )
